ABOUT OUR CHURCH

Saint Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church

Original Church.jpg

In the autumn of 1904, a modest, tall-steepled, white frame church was constructed near the road the would become known as U.S. Route 6. Saint Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church was founded as a preaching place by Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Adam Ridge, Defiance County, Ohio.
English language worship began in 1912
The Ladies’ Aid Society was organized in 1921, beginning its long history of benevolence and service to the congregation.
The Wicks pipe organ was ordered in 1942, but construction was delayed by wartime restrictions. It was finally installed in 1945.
The Memorial Bell Tower was completed in 1957. It is a memorial to Reverend Herman Schult, the founding pastor of the congregation. The tower is  three-sided to symbolize the Trinity. The large cross was made from a hand-hewn beam which was the main floor support of the original church building. The cross symbolizes our hope of salvation through Christ. The bell and the bulletin boards symbolize the proclamation of the good news of salvation.
